Automatic Transfer Switch For Off Grid Solar Wind System Dual Power LCD Display
Aug 28, 2020
Bad design, did not work for me
Draws 410ma from the battery so if the distance to battery is 10s of feet, the voltage drop changes the reading and the switching is not correct. My application was to keep the refrigerator operating if solar battery is low. The battery house is 100ft from the refrigerator. Would not work with 100ft 14AWG wire to the battery. The voltage reading became erratic and the power cut out with short clicks, causing the refrigerator motor to not be able to run. If the inverter has shut down, this device will switch back to inverter power when the battery becomes charged, even though there is none. This device totally ignores what power is available. Only responds to battery voltage. The metal heat sink on the back is not grounded (there is no connection for the ground). This could easily become a hazard if the internal insulation fails. The ideal device would have separate sense lines to accurately measure battery voltage. The continuous 410ma will drain battery (why is this necessary anyway, normal relay is 16ma). An Ideal device would sense when there is no AC voltage from the inverter and switch to public power.
