About us
Tesoro Tarasco translates to Tarascan Treasure. The word Tarasco dates back to the colonization of Mexico by the Spaniards. Northern Michoacan was home to active volcanoes and to the Purepecha people, whom later were known as Tarascan by the Spaniards.
The Purepecha people were believed to be some of the most accomplished craftsmen of Mexico. Once colonization began, the land was devided into craft-oriented villages, each skilled in either wood, cloth, pottery, copper and other hand crafts. One of the villages skilled in copper was (and still is) Santa Clara del Cobre.
