Categorisation of Listings

Items must be listed in the appropriate category. Violations of this policy may result in a range of actions, including:

  • Listing cancellation

  • Loss of eBay fees

  • Limits placed on account privileges

  • Loss of PowerSeller status

  • Account suspension

  • A silver necklace should be listed in the jewellery category, not in consumer electronics.

  • A cookbook should be listed in the books category, not in sports memorabilia.

Guidelines for listing items are outlined in the eBay User Agreement.

Categorising items in an inappropriate category results in a poor shopping and finding experience for buyers since incorrect categorisation returns listings in which the buyer may have no interest. Incorrect categorisation also results in an unfair playing field for sellers who categorise their items appropriately and may receive fewer potential buyers.
