Signing in to your account


How to sign in

After you register with eBay, you can sign in with either your username or the email address associated with your account, and your password.

To sign in:
  1. Go to the sign-in page.

    Important: Make sure that the web address of the sign-in page starts with

  2. Enter your username or email address, and password.

  3. Enter your password or click Sign in with a single use code.

  4. If you're on a public or shared computer, we recommend that you clear the Stay signed in check box.

  5. Click Sign in.


When you'll need to sign in

To protect your identity and privacy, we ask you to sign in periodically. For example, we ask you to sign in when you:

  • Request a change to your user information such as email address, username, payment methods, or credit card information.

  • Have a buyer account and want to add a seller account.

  • Start listing an item using a different browser session, even if you've selected the Stay signed in option. However, if you use the same browser session to sign in and to list an item, we won't ask you to sign in again unless you've closed your browser at any time after you signed in.

  • Clear cookies from your browser, or if your cookies become corrupted.  

  • Post to the Community Discussion Boards, Answer Center or eBay Groups.

As an extra security check, we may occasionally ask you to enter a verification code when you sign in.

If you forget your username or password

If you forget your username, you can sign in with your registered email address, or we'll send an email with your username.

If you forget your password, you can click Sign in with a single use code or reset your password. Your old password will remain active until you create a new one.
