Additional informationPersonnel: Steve Lawrence (vocals); Eydie Gorme (vocals). Liner Note Author: Gerald Mahlowe. We'll Take Romance is an apt title since it covers the years during which Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme met and married. The duo's recordings aren't always easy to find because the two own most of their masters and are very deliberate about issuing them. That makes We'll Take Romance an exciting find, because it compiles a number of rare ABC-Paramount recordings, including several U.S. chart hits. Gorme's minor solo hits "I'll Take Romance" and "The Voice in My Heart" are present, as well as Lawrence's major hits "Pretty Blue Eyes" and "Footsteps." The anthology is not particularly hit-oriented, though, since Gorme's "Love Me Forever" (a hit in England and the United States) is omitted, as well as several other chart items. The music, aside from Lawrence's two pop/rock hits, are timeless traditional pop vocal recordings with full orchestration in a variety of moods. The love-struck pair get romantic on "No Two People," playful and teasing on "Flattery," sultry and exotic on "Besame Mucho." We'll Take Romance features Lawrence and Gorme at their best, with a well-selected program of songs that showcases their individual and combined talents. ~ Greg Adams
