Wargame Construction Set is a fun little scenario editor and wargame. But though it's touted as recreating any battle from prehistory to the present day, it really should have been called the World War II Construction Set. No matter what period you set your battle in, it's curiously dominated by such foxhole-themed concepts as fortification, artillery and suppressing fire. Sure, there are Civil War, space and fantasy scenarios included, but it is disconcerting to find your elven archer "pinned down" by gunfire trench-warfare style, or that your wizard is really just an air support unit with a high number of movement points. The rules aren't very flexible -- you can't create a naval game, for example.<br><br>Nevertheless, WCS offers the inherent creative joys of a construction set, putting it almost, but not quite, up there with Racing Destruction Set. The graphics and sound are limited but more colorful than the average SSI wargame.
