The evil ninja lord Havok is out to rule the world with his robot army, but not if the immortal Hiro has anything to say about it. Players move from left to right in Switchblade II, using their switchblade to destroy any monsters in their path. Defeated monsters leave behind valuable orbs when collected. At certain points during levels, players encounter shops where they can spend their money on things like health boosts, ammunition reloads, and even new weapons. Additional weapons can also be found in the game, giving players a long-range, offensive projectile attack. In addition, players can perform both medium and high jumps. Be careful, though: if Hiro lands from too high of a jump, he takes damage. You begin the game with two bars on the bottom of the screen. The left bar represents health and will decrease whenever monsters, fire or other damaging obstacles strike the hero. It can be replenished through items found during the game or by buying a heart while in a shop. The second bar, located on the right, represents your character's current ammunition load and is only active when the hero finds and equips a weapon. Extra ammunition can be found both in the game and in shops. If the left health bar is completely depleted, the character dies. The game is over when players lose all their lives.
