Steel Soldiers, the sequel to The Bitmap Brothers' 1996 RTS game Z, focuses on battle decisions required to gain and hold territory. The presentation has been upgraded to full 3D accelerated gameplay and features 30 detailed levels covering six unique worlds. Real-time environmental forces impact troop movement and tactical decisions involving air, sea and land units, ranging from World War II to present day firepower.<br><br>Game basics include battlefield navigation, capturing and holding areas within territories, a simplified resource/credit system requiring less attention to resources and more on warfare, moving troops and attacking the enemy, ordering units, line-of-sight battle, and weaponry. Advanced gameplay encompasses unit movement (defensive, passive and aggressive stances), building shipyards, converting enemy structures, environmental controls and research, and special actions (bombing raids, laying sea mines, viruses, and so forth).<br><br>A few examples of unit types include anti-tank guns and anti-missile stations (artillery), psycho and sniper (infantry), construction robots and spies (specialized infantry), jeeps and mortar tanks (ground), scout helicopters and stealth bombers (air), and gunboats and battle cruisers (sea). More than 50 structures and units make up the full arsenal. Twenty maps are provided for multiplayer action for up to eight players over a LAN or the Internet.
