The situation: A friendly robot freighter has gone down on planetoid Beta-7, scattering its valuable cargo consisting of trimetalisium energy crystals. An enemy star cruiser, along with several fight drones, are en route to steal the crystals. Your mission: Recover the energy crystals and destroy all enemy fighters. Star Fox resembles Defender in many ways -- it is a side-view space fighting game in which you must rescue objects located on the planet's surface while you are attacked by spacecraft in the air. Your craft is outfitted with a laser cannon. Rescuing crystals is not as easy as it would seem because as you approach the planet's surface, your craft is no longer maneuverable in a horizontal direction due to the ionizing effect the crystals have on the planet's atmosphere. In addition to a practice mode, you may choose to begin on level one or two. In level one, ramming into an enemy will destroy it. In level two, colliding with an enemy will destroy your ship. As the game continues, enemies become faster and more difficult to destroy.
