As the story goes, hordes and hordes of ships first attacked Earth on November 22, 1978. If it weren't for an experimental Tank, Earth would have been destroyed. But the government covered up any knowledge of an alien race. Using technology from a crashed alien ship, the government developed a much more advanced version of the Tank that is designed to go into the upper atmosphere. Rather than wait for another alien invasion, the government took an offensive approach this time.<br><br>This '90s update to Space Invaders keeps the two-dimensional, single-screen perspective rather than go the 3D route. Battles take place on planets throughout the Milky Way galaxy. New to Space Invaders is the ability to get power-ups from aliens and mother ships. Offensive power-ups from aliens are activated with a separate button, and those from the mother ships are useful aids that are used automatically. Power-ups are important, because you'll find that shots fire much more slowly than the original, many more enemies need to be destroyed, and bosses present a new problem to the series.<br><br>One or two players can play Space Invaders simultaneously. The game features the ability to save your game in progress, your high scores, and your options. Difficulty level, volume control, and controller configuration all can be adjusted in the Options screen. Rumble Pak support is also included. As a bonus, the classic Arcade version of Space Invaders is hidden within the game, too.
