Author BiographyBorn the last of eight children to parents Sarah and Bruce, Analida Maria Garrett quickly became Sammi. She had long dark hair when she was born as did a comic strip maven, Long Sam. The nurses gave her the nickname and it followed her throughout her life. She grew up in Apalachin, NY and attended Owego Apalachin Schools graduating from OFA in 1974. Sammi was always an avid reader and a musician. She wanted to be Rock star at an early age and never stopped working toward that goal. She was also a prolific writer, starting with poems and songs and advancing to essays and short stories. It was how she fought back against injustice of all types and explored the complex relationships we all face in life. She brought the same courage and compassion to her participation in her church, where she sang in the choir and taught in the children's program. She also wrote about her time as an interior firefighter, New York State Fire Instructor, EMT, motorcycle rider and friend. What Analida would probably most like to be remembered for is her marriage, three children and her grandchildren who all gave their unconditional love that she needed so badly, especially during her heroic fight with cancer. She didn't lose that fight, she just ran out of time.
