Product Information

As commander of a commissioned United States submarine in World War II, you creep through enemy waters and destroy Japanese battleships, tankers and convoys. You'll disrupt escorts, execute hit and run style offensives and sneak into enemy harbors. In Silent Hunter, you participate in a campaign style career mode where you execute sequenced events and tactically take apart the enemy. Missions are varied in how they are carried out and many of the tasks require full use of the tools on your submarine. Historical battles are also available and require you to complete certain goals achieved by actual ships and crewmembers during World War II. Battle maps and locations are faithfully reproduced to offer a realistic interpretation of the actual environments. You set time limits, ammo amounts and situational aspects to make the simulation as real as possible. Hypothetical encounters are available, allowing you write your own history, and include variable locations and battles designed to challenge. Fighting takes place from a perspective inside an officially recreated submarine and offers you access to systems and areas that make maneuvering and hunting targets realistic, including periscope, gauges, engineering, tactical and map rooms. Launching torpedoes can be achieved with great accuracy through use of the Torpedo Data Computer (TDC). William "Bud" Gruner is technical advisor for Silent Hunter and provides personal knowledge, stories and anecdotes via interviews and video presentations within the game. As a decorated World War II hero, he knows the subject and is able to provide schematics and insight into the actual layout of the game and actual setup aspects.
