The Seagate Barracuda ES 500GB internal 7200RPM 3.5” (ST3500620SS) HDD enterprise hard drive is one of the industry’s most reliable storage solutions for business-critical applications. The ES 500GB hard disk drive offers fast, efficient data processing for optimal performance. Its 500 GB of storage provides ample capacity for complex operations. The Barracuda ES 500GB hard drive owes its capacity and increased areal density to the perpendicular recording technology it shares with Seagate’s 7200.10. However, the Barracuda ES prevails thanks to firmware optimizations that allow for superior performance under the most demanding loads. With a 7200 RPM spindle speed, the Barracuda ES provides a speedy data transfer rate of 1287 Mb/s maximum internal and 116 maximum sustained SAS. Running through a SAS 3 GB/S interface, the Barracuda ES has an average latency of 4.6 ms. In addition to 16 MB of cache, the Barracuda ES includes a host of firmware. Error Recovery Control limits the drive’s error recovery time to 12 seconds. To help reduce overall errors, Seagate designed the Barracuda ES to monitor temperatures. Temperature monitoring prevents the unit from producing errors in high-heat or other unusual thermal environments. If the drive gets too hot, the ES will shuffle I/O requests in a way that allows the drive to cool off. The rotational vibrational tolerance feature combats vibration-induced performance issues. Sensors detect vibration and adjust the drive head to accommodate. Because of this feature, the Barracuda ES can tolerate a rotational vibration of 12.5 rad/second squared with a rotational profile of 20 to 800 Hz. Measuring at a standard 3.5-inch form factor, the Barracuda ES has a sector size of 512/512e. It fits most standard desktop system drive bays. It has a SAS Serial Attached SCSI 3.0 bps electrical interface and energy-saving features. The Barracuda ES easily accommodates storage-hungry business applications, network attached storage, maximum-capacity servers, and rich media content storage for audio, video, and image.
