As its many console and computer game predecessors, Romance of the Three Kingdoms VII is a game encompassing both combat tactics and long-term strategy, set in the politically turbulent third-century China. Gameplay combines the strategy of KOEI's Kessen with contextual role-playing elements designed to cast the player as an influential figure in the ancient land. Players can choose to enter the game at different levels of prestige, beginning as an unknown Ronin warrior in search of a cause, or perhaps instead jumping into the role of a prominent Prefect.<br><br>Characters of different rank have different responsibilities; the lower level Officer must supervise individual troops and divisions, while the ruling Liege needs to be more concerned with overall resources and diplomatic efforts. The end goal is to unite the kingdoms under one rule -- yours. Ultimately, success relies on many factors, from skill in combat, to wise battlefield tactics, to fair and just feudal leadership. As in earlier Romance of the Three Kingdoms games, several legendary figures are featured, to give the game world an added degree of history and authenticity.
