Author BiographyMark H. Newhouse is the multi-award winning author of the Rockhound Mysteries, books and activities, which received the Teachers' Choice Award from LEARNING in 2001. YOU NEVER SEE FAT VAMPIRES, a funny, slightly scary story about how far a girl will go to stop bullies won 1st Prize YA fiction in the 2011 Florida Writers Association Royal Palm Literary Awards while Stolen Property, an unpublished short story was a winner in the 2011 Writers Digest Short Story competition. He also was editor-in-chief and contributor to Holiday Helpings, with introduction by Hall of Fame Golfer and humanitarian, Nancy Lopez, and The Story Shop anthologies. Other books include Who's Afraid of Essays? (Earthkids Publishing) and Unforgettable At Any Speed (Quixote Press). His stories have won various honors in the Creative Writer's Notebook Short Story Contests in 2007, 2008, 2009, and have appeared in the Journeys Series of contest anthologies. A former teacher, Central Islip, New York, and Adjunct Professor, Department of Education, SUNY Old Westbury, New York, he was named New York State Elementary/Secondary Teacher of the Year (NYS Reading Association 1989).
