Strap on your skates, grab your stick and helmet, and head out onto the ice for some big league ice hockey action in Konami's NHL Blades of Steel '99. Pick from all of the real NHL teams and their players for an exhibition, a season, or a play-off. You can also hone your fighting and penalty shot skills in practice mode. You can save your progress during the season, and there is an option for two Game Boy Color players to go head-to-head using a link cable. This game follows the basics of hockey gameplay with 20-minute periods, line changes, overtime, and penalty shots for special situations such as a player being pulled down while on a break-away. Fights can even break out if the hitting gets too intense. During season play, you can create players and even trade with a friend by using the Game Boy Color's infrared port. Every player is rated in four categories which are based on his accomplishments during the 1997-1998 NHL season.
