About this product

Product Information

Real-time naval combat comes to your computer screen in Man of War II: Chains of Command, the sequel to the original Man of War by Strategy First. The game recreates battles from the Age of Sail, a 50-year period of history that ended with the death of Horatio Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805. There are 23 historically accurate pre-built scenarios included, all played in single-player mode.

The 23 historical scenarios span four wars during the period. From 1756-1763, four battles from The Seven Years' War, the struggle between Austria and Prussia, are recreated: Minorca, Cap Francois, Lagos and Pondicherry. The American War of Independence (Revolutionary War), fought from 1776-1783, features a half-dozen battles including Ushant, Dogger Bank, Chesapeake, Sadras, Les Saintes and Cuddalore.

The end of the 18th century saw the French Revolutionary War (1792-1799) of which eight battles are represented in Man of War II. Included is The Glorious First of June (1794), Gulf of Genoa, Belle Isle, Ile de Groix, Cape St. Vincent, Camperdown, Donegal and the 2nd Battle of Algeciras. The final five scenarios are from the Napoleonic Wars (1799-1814) and feature Finisterre, Trafalgar, Cape Ortegal, San Domingo and Lissa.

During gameplay, you'll select which historical ship to command for each scenario (from any ship on the map) and carry out orders and employ strategy and tactics commensurate with the rank of the character you choose. As a Captain, you'll say "Aye Sir" to Division Commander and Admiral wishes. Should you choose to play as Division Commander, the Fleet Flag Officer will be expecting his orders to be carried out and as Admiral, you'll be responsible for not only your own division but those that serve under you as well.

At each level of command, navigation, ship control, prioritization of crew activities and sail configuration fall under your purview. Should your ship sink, your crew surrender or you strike your colors, an option is available to watch the rest of the battle from a first-person viewpoint.

Customizable options within battle conditions include cannon fire rates, ship handling, damage, ship components and deployment of weapons, ship types, shot (ammunition) used and formations. Unique orders at all three levels of command are offered and character creation is available should you opt against using a historical figure. A functional custom scenario builder is provided which allows you to design or recreate any battle of the era you see fit.

Man of War II: Chains of Command is seen from both first- and third-person perspectives and can be played from both 2D and 3D viewpoints. Multi-player action is available on both LAN and the Internet for up to 32 players, each commanding a specific ship in simultaneous real-time action.

The order is given, now prepare for battle!
