This quad-core processor offers a base clock speed of 2.8 GHz with a maximum turbo boosted clock speed of 3.46 GHz. In order to improve the i7 series of microprocessors, Intel has created a different kind of architecture. Thanks to the Direct Media Interface technology, the i7 microprocessor provides increased bandwidth between the different CPU components. The four cores can reach their maximum potential, and the microprocessor ultimately gets more instructions per clock cycle. The Intel Core i7 microprocessor is tailor made for CPU-intensive tasks like video editing and gaming. Modern video games require thousands of high-speed calculations that processors with lower specifications would struggle to cope with. For their i7 family, Intel worked closely with Crytek, the developers of the hit Crysis and Far Cry series. They worked to ensure that the microprocessor can push advanced physics and artificial intelligence in real-time while maintaining a consistent frame rate. The i7 processor also improves DVD encoding speeds so that editing and sharing your high-quality media is easier than ever before. It can do all of this while running highly threaded software, such as virus protection, in the background.The Intel i7 microprocessor operates on a 64-bit instruction, with an LGA 1156 socket to connect to the motherboard. It has a 2.5 GT/s (Giga transfers per second) bus speed that can transfer more data between the CPU's component than previous processors. The i7-860 also has a Smart Cache capacity of 8MB. Smart Cache improves the allocation of resources based on workload, thus increasing the amount of available RAM. The Intel Core i7 enables two channels of DDR3 1333 MHz memory to deliver high-quality results for data-intensive applications. It has a maximum memory size of 16 GB, with up to 21 GB/sec bandwidth.The Intel i7-860 also contains several standard and enhanced features for optimal performance. The Execute Disable Bit technology, for instance, reduces exposure to viruses and malicious codes. Enhanced SpeedStep will automatically adjust the processor's voltage and core frequency, thus decreasing average power consumption and heat production. Turbo Boost allows the microprocessor to run up to 133 MHz faster when it's operating below power/thermal limits. The processor's virtualization ability enables several operating systems to run on the same machine without taking any performance or compatibility hit. Hyper-threading enables multiple threads to run on each core. This makes the most efficient use of the processor's resources and improving multi-tasking abilities. Hyper threading nearly doubles the output of the four-core design. Additional enhancements that improve the processor's functionality include vPro for aiding in video production and Trusted Execution for safe data transfers.
