It sets portions of a famous poem by John Milton. This work is a marvel - wonderfully lively in the "Allegro" portions, wonderfully eloquent elsewhere. It's very well performed here and I recommend it highly. The boy soprano who takes two of the solos has to be heard to be believed - I wonder where he's singing now? This work was composed only a couple of years before Handel wrote his Messiah and if you are familiar with the latter you will notice many parallels. The sound quality is good. This oratorio recording alone (two disks) is worth the price of the whole box.
