The Nexus One was the first smartphone developed by HTC on behalf of Google. Originally conceived in 2009, the Nexus One was intended to be a phone capable showcasing the upcoming Android operating system, which was developed alongside the Nexus One. The final release date was January 5, 2010, with the system going on to sell worldwide in the following years. The Nexus One was among the first smartphone devices to be sold unlocked and without a SIM card, although T-Mobile cards were soon made available. Quickly nicknamed the "Droid," it proved hugely popular and showed the viability of Android products.Since the Nexus One phone was intended to be a premium device showing off the capabilities of Android as well as the first of a new line of Nexus devices, it was equipped with effective and high-speed hardware technology.
