About this product

Product Information

The first half of Global Defense is an unusual side-scroller in that players must keep their ship, a satellite, out of harm's way while at the same time guiding a cursor around the screen, picking off enemies as efficiently as possible. Initially, the game feels clumsy and is very difficult. However, it gets easier as the player gets comfortable with the controls and figures out how to use explosion clouds to guard areas of the screen (as opposed to trying to destroy enemies one by one). There are power-ups to collect that will enhance speed, reduce damage and increase the sized of laser bursts. The second half of the game is somewhat reminiscent of Missile Command but with unlimited firepower and an entire planet to protect (as opposed to six cities). This game is different enough to stand out from the pack, and it has its moments visually (the asteroid belt looks especially nice), but the levels are short and in need of more power-ups.
