Built around AMD-processor compatibility, the GA-990FXA-UD7 supports AMD Athlon II, Athlon II X2, Athlon II X3, Athlon II X4, X, Opteron 3200, Phenom II X2, Phenom II X3, Phenom II X4, Phenom II X6, Sempron, Sempron X2, and AM3+ FX series processors. Gigabyte Technology GA-990FXA-UD7 motherboards use AMD’s 990FX (Northbridge) / SB950 (Southbridge) chipset. The 990FX chipset supports NVIDIA Quad-GPU SLI technology and AMD Quad-GPU CrossFireX, which allows for up to four AMD or NVIDIA graphics cards. Running multiple graphics cards means you can engage in power-hungry, CPU-demanding gaming at near-maximum settings on up to three displays at 4K resolution, without suffering from the specter of lag time that haunts lesser boards. The GA-990FXA-UD7 features Gigabyte’s eXtreme Hard Drive (XHD) technology, which improves hard drive performance by allowing you to set up a RAID 0 configuration in a BIOS utility. The GA-990FXA-UD7 employs an optional nonconventional means of conserving power called AutoGreen. When you have a Bluetooth-enabled smartphone within range, and move it out of range, AutoGreen prompts the PC to enter sleep mode automatically. The GA-990FXA-UD7 also has an On/Off Charge feature that, when enabled, charges iPhones, iPads, and iPod Touch devices 40 percent faster than when charged through a USB port that doesn’t have On/Off Charge enabled. In addition to 14 USB 2.0 ports, Gigabyte Technology’s GA-990FXA-UD7 motherboard has four SuperSpeed USB 3.0 ports. Devices connected with USB 3.0 transfer data at 5GB per second, nearly 10 times faster than USB 2.0 ports. To increase the performance of the GA-990FXA-UD7’s 14 USB 2.0 ports, Gigabyte Technology included the 3x USP Power feature, which provides data transfer three times that of unaided USB 2.0 connections. The 3x USP Power function also regulates power over the full voltage range, helping provide consistent, stable power delivery. Gigabyte Technology’s GA-990FXA-UD7 motherboard includes six SATA 3 and two SATA 2 ports and supports SATA 6Gbps, allowing you to connect additional mass-storage devices, such as Solid-State Hard Drives (SSHD) and Hard-Disk Drives (HDD). Four DDR3 DIMM sockets support 32 GB of system memory. The 990FX UD7 has Dolby Home Theater support and 7.1 high-definition audio, along with six audio outs, to give your system phenomenal sound capabilities. An S/PDIF Out connector lets you connect your television to your computer to use the home-theater applications. The Gigabyte Technology GA-990FXA-UD7 motherboard provides a lot of room for expansion, too. With two PCI Express x16 slots, two PCI Express x16 slots, two x PCI Express x16 slots, and one PCI slot, the 990FX motherboard has ample space to add and upgrade Graphics Processing Units(GPU) and Video Processing Units (VPU).
