The persistent online world of EverQuest grows yet again with this release of Shadows of Luclin, the third expansion pack developed for the popular and successful massively-multiplayer fantasy RPG. Unlike the immediately previous expansion pack Scars of Velious, which added a concentration of new features for higher level characters, this release is designed to please both newbies and veteran EQer's alike. Set on Luclin, the life-supporting moon high above the well traveled lands of Norrath, this package offers a new starting city, a new playable race, and 24 zones of new territory to explore and conquer. This chapter of the story introduces a new playable race of feline humanoids called the Vah Shir, who have lived on the moon of Luclin for ages and developed a distinctive civilization there. In ancient times, a great magically charged battle blasted a piece of the Vah Shir homeland on Norrath out and away from the planet. This enormous chunk of earth eventually landed on the distant moon. Shaman magic protected the people on the separated land, allowing some of the Vah Shir to survive the terrible journey. Over the centuries that have past since that tumultuous event, the cat-like Vah Shir have created a new society, on the strict terms of their strange new homeland and the idiosyncrasies of their own unique culture. The moon of Luclin does not revolve in relation to the sun. It truly has a "dark side" and a "light side." Two separate realms have developed in these two different areas for adventurers to visit and explore, with the dark side under control of the forces of order and the light side ruled by the forces of discord. Other enhancements offered by the expansion pack include the addition of a new character class, the Beastlords, who have the power to cast spells and befriend powerful familiars that can travel with them wherever they go. The EverQuest graphical engine has been improved in this release as well, featuring higher polygon counts, new character models, and more expressive facial animations.
