Seven years later, they went on a reunion tour, and since then, the band has been around-if not touring on a regular basis or recording much, then at least playing tribute gigs and reviving old projects. It was at the turn of the century that they actively revived, just before John Entwistle died of a heart attack and left Townshend and Roger Daltry the only surviving members. The twosome, after releasing the comp "Then and Now," brought us the long-promised, long-awaited "Endless Wire."The album hearkens back to old Who stuff in terms of theme, structure and sound: there's dark acoustics and mod pop, futuristic rock and opera. There's furious windmills and propulsive rhythms. There's concept and autobiography. Daltry and Townshend bare themselves here, unshadowed, and their performances are angry and gut-wrenching, and always honest. It's a remarkable accomplishment after a quarter-century hiatus. Every Who fan needs their hands on this one.
