About this product

Product Information

Deadly Arts is a 3D fighting game that stars eight colorful characters looking to pummel each other into submission. Once you've selected a suitable alter-ego, you'll battle within 3D arenas featuring interactive objects such as cars, guillotines, caskets and even crumbling walls (which will open up additional areas to fight in)! Fighting involves trading blows as a health meter diminishes with each successful hit. Each match is also timed, but it doesn't matter how much health you have left should time expire.

Deadly Arts features a point system that can be broken down into four categories: Technical, Penalty, Life and Special. Technical Points are awarded for successful use of combos and special moves, while Penalty Points are deducted if you are not aggressive enough. Life Points reward those who receive a minimal amount of damage, and Special Points are so named because they involve performing specific techniques (such as initiating contact).

While the game offers one- and two-player contests, Team Battle and Tag Battle modes, the most notable addition is the Create-a-Fighter feature. This allows you to build a character from scratch, choosing his or her face, body type, hairstyle, clothing, skin tone and name. Once finished, you can enter the Training Mode in an attempt to learn special moves from your "teacher." Your character can also be saved to a Controller Pak with nine pages free (two more additional pages are required to save options).

The main characters, each modeled in the style of Japanese anime, are classified into three types of fighters: powerhouses, grapplers and speedsters. Three characters fall under the powerhouse category, meaning they are strong fighters who can do heavy damage at close range. There's Kai, a balanced fighter who resembles a young Solid Snake in appearance; Kongoh, a muscular bruiser with a clean-shaven head; and Sakai, a kickboxer who keeps his long hair in a ponytail.

The two grapplers include Kaoru, a skater wearing a leather aviator's cap (complete with goggles), and the purple-skinned beast known as Kyoya. The three speedsters are the beautiful redhead Miki, gymnast Azami and the buxom Serina. Defeat all of these characters and you'll get to face the masked Gouriki as well as the morphing Reiji!
