Dark Legend involves combat between opponents in a 2D-plane with 2D backgrounds. It can be played in a one-player story mode or two-player versus mode. Legendary Chinese personalities make up the cast of characters for which there are 11 at the beginning of the game.<br><br>The fighting is performed with weapon attacks, kicks, and special attacks/defenses. Dark Legend contains a weapon gauge that monitors a weapon's durability. If the gauge reaches zero, the weapon is destroyed for the remainder of the round. Each match requires you to win two out of three rounds, but the settings can be modified. A beginner level is also available for novice players. <br><br>The controls are laid out in the standard six button configuration with three punches and three kicks (weakest to strongest). Special moves are done with rolling motions of the D-pad. Defense is performed by a back or back/down motion on the control pad, and jumping requires an upward motion. This control configuration is exactly the same as Capcom's Street Fighter series.
