Mythic Entertainment's contribution to the ever-growing library of Massively Multiplayer Online Role Playing Games (MMORPG) was released in 2001, with its first expansion pack, Dark Age of Camelot: Shrouded Isles, following in 2002. Players who missed the initial launch of this medieval-based fantasy world that features player vs. player (PvP) and realm vs. realm (RvR) combat can now leap into the fray with expanded choices of realm, race, and character classes right from the start. Having access to the expansion increases the territorial boundaries of the realms of Albion, Midgard, and Hibernia by offering new enemies, continents, dungeons, races, and quests.<br><br>Catering to players of all types, Dark Age of Camelot offers four distinct servers. Normal servers restrict players to their individual realms and prohibit PvP killing other than in RvR combat in battle zones and frontier areas. PvP servers allow players in any realm to kill anyone and receive experience points, with the exception of players under Level 10 who are exempt from PvP attacks until their experience levels them up. Cooperative servers let players explore and adventure throughout all three realms without fear of RvR or PvP combat (no killing of players allowed), while Role-Playing servers are designed to encourage realm-appropriate activity (player naming conventions, specific rules, and so forth).<br><br>This "Gold Edition" offers one month free subscription, after which players must pay a monthly rate to continue adventuring. As with an ever-expanding number of MMORPGs, Dark Age of Camelot offers an option to pay and play without use of a credit card.
