Have you ever wanted to take the three-hour flight from New York to London? Well, now you can, on your very own Concorde SST. Interactive Magic arrives at supersonic speed on your desktop with an official add-on product for the Microsoft Flight Simulator 98. Introduced to the world in 1969, the SST is the fastest civil aircraft in mankind's history -- nearing speeds of 1300 MPH, or Mach 2. An important note in the Concorde SST manual states: "This Flight Simulator model of Concorde is highly accurate and has been finely tuned so that the flying experience is as close to the real thing as possible." Important because, put simply, it goes on to say that if the controls are not operated correctly, the aircraft will not respond or fly correctly. As part of the reality of the simulator, the Concorde's flight instrument panels are photo-realistic in appearance with every instrument, regular and ancillary, represented and operative. The add-on comes with four adventures including a training program and a skill testing flight between New York and London that tracks your progress by informing you of how many mistakes you make and how often. The two other adventures are regular flights between the two cities that require your full compliance with routes and procedures without assistance, NY-London and London-NY. Flight profiles run the gamut of actual procedures and incorporate every aspect of real flight preparations from parking and pre-taxi routines to take-off. From that point, you'll climb out, accelerate to supersonic speed, settle at the appropriate cruise speed and altitudes (50,000 to 60,000 feet), decelerate, descend, approach, set final approach, land and brake. The game supports keyboard, mouse and joystick (Microsoft Sidewinder is recommended), contains adjustable realism settings such as outside temperatures, flight realism, viewing distances and mini-sceneries. Sound effects for the simulation are authentic recordings of an actual Concorde and animations are offered that showcase the retractable nose cone's operation.
