As the title suggests, Comanche Gold contains a re-release of a previously issued game, in this case Comanche 3. However, fans of the original, as well as newcomers, will find a great deal of gameplay here as the developers have added substantial improvements, features and new missions to this combat helicopter flight simulation. At the core of the game is the United States Army's Boeing/Sikorsky RAH-66 Comanche, quite possibly the deadliest attack helicopter in the world (circa 1999). Equipped with the proprietary Voxel Space 2 graphics engine, Comanche Gold takes advantage of new enhancements and improved computer gaming technology and capabilities that upgrade the game significantly, bringing it up to late 1990s state-of-the-art standards. The game supports up to ten players in multi-player mode and features expanded combat missions, each covering at least 80 square miles of diverse and rugged terrain. An additional campaign, designed by former U. S. Army Comanche team member Major Allen Sakcriska, has been added and brings the total number of campaigns, each with eight lengthy missions, to nine with a mission total of 80. The total includes eight additional specifically designed "melee" scenarios for head-to-head live action against other human players. The 72 missions designed for solo players can also be played in cooperative multi-player mode. The nine campaigns take place in separate areas of the world, offering diverse and changing environments. The first seven missions of any single campaign can be played in any order, but all must be completed successfully before the final mission can be engaged. Also included are six, step-by-step training missions to ease the learning curve of this complex simulation. Other features of Comanche Gold include realistic and dangerous changing weather patterns, fully-detailed battleground objects, both an Easy (highly recommended for novice pilots) and Advanced flight mode and a fully operational mission designer that allows development and play of your own scenarios. Those familiar with the earlier version of Comanche 3 should take note that improved wingmen AI and new weapons loadout options have been incorporated. Supported controllers include mouse, keyboard and joystick. A handy function key overlay is provided as well as a sturdy reference card that allows you instant access to the many and varied commands, actions and options available.
