Clutch Hitter is a 2D baseball game for the Game Gear. Before starting, you can choose whether to play a game of five, seven, or a full nine innings. You can then select from the full roster of both National League and American League teams. Once you have a team, you must decide on a starting pitcher from the team's roster. Each pitcher has an ERA rating as well as a won-loss record.<br><br>While pitching, you can position yourself anywhere on the mound, and can control both the speed of the ball and its direction by pressing on the D-pad after the windup. You are also free to throw to any of the bases from the mound in a pickoff attempt. A small screen showing a miniature version of the diamond will track any base runners while you're on defense. The game switches to an overhead view for fielding if the batter makes contact.<br><br>On offense, you can choose to swing away or try to bunt the ball. If there are runners on base, you can also try to steal bases with them. The batting screen is divided vertically into three columns. The two columns on either side of the screen show first and third base, while the large middle column shows second base, the pitcher, and the current batter.
