Product Information
Chessmaster 8000 continues the series begun in 1986 for the PC and offers a new chess engine, a kid-friendly interface for introducing youngsters to the classic pastime, and a selection of tutorials designed to help everyone from beginners to professionals. There are seven main modes of play including Library, Classroom, Tournament, Game Room, Database, Kids Room, and CMLive.

Library mode lets you view classic games move by move, utilize the chess glossary, open the book editor and use the book reference to study how masters play and win. The Classroom, with beginner, intermediate and advanced levels, systematically teaches how the game is played through a series of quizzes ranging in subject matter from board layout and legal moves to strategies on openings and pinning opponents. A fourth level, named for International Master Josh Waitzkin, is for experts beyond the advanced skill level.

Tournament mode allows rated games against a single opponent or up to eight players in a tournament setting. An initial rating of over 2000 points, created with each new established ID, increases or decreases depending on the outcome of rated games with the changes weighted based on opponent strength or weakness. For casual players, the Game Room provides a venue for matches that don't affect ratings and offers advice on moves, analysis of completed games and situational board setups for studying specific positions.

For analysis, study or simply watching games, the Database utilizes a search engine for locating chess matches (more than 500,000) based on chosen parameters. In the Kids Room, colorful chess pieces with different backgrounds and lower-rated opponents allow children to ease into the game while CMLive offers Internet competition against opponents from around the world.Product Identifiers
