Product Information
Based on Atari's 1981 Arcade classic, Centipede for the Intellivision has you lost in an enchanted forest. Luckily, a squirrel comes along and tells you that if you will help rid him and his forest friends from the cruel dominion of an evil centipede, he will show you the way home. A bird flies by and releases three feathers, which magically transform into glowing wands when you catch them. The squirrel informs you that you can use the magic wands to shoot sparks at the centipede. Suddenly, the squirrel scurries off, and you know this could mean only one thing: the centipede is coming your way!

A wand that shoots vertically and maneuvers along the bottom Πof the screen represents your onscreen character. The centipede, which consists of 10 segments, begins its descent at the top of the playfield and maneuvers through the enchanted forest (field of mushrooms). When you shoot a section of the centipede, it turns into a harmless mushroom. The body segment behind that mushroom becomes the head of a new centipede. After you have destroyed the entire centipede, a fresh centipede enters the picture, once again from the top of the screen.

Despite its overwhelming presence, the centipede is not the only pest in the forest. A spider will make your mission difficult by hopping up and down all around you. A kamikaze flea (which must be shot twice) drops straight down the screen, creating mushrooms as it falls. A scorpion crawls by from time to time, poisoning all the mushrooms it touches. When a centipede hits a poisonous mushroom, it goes insane and plunges straight through the field of mushrooms and toward you.

Your goal in Centipede is to score as many points as you can by shooting (and avoiding contact with) enemy pests. You can also shoot mushrooms for extra points (and to clear pathways in the forest). You are given three wands (each with unlimited firepower) and will earn a new one for every 10,000 points scored. Despite the promise the squirrel made, he will never show you the way home. As long as you have at least one wand, the centipedes will keep coming after you.Product Identifiers
