Baseball Advance features both an MLB and MLBPA license for authentic teams, stadiums, and athletes in four modes of play: Exhibition, Season, Playoffs, and All-Star Game. The batting perspective is viewed through the eyes of the catcher, while a cursor system is used to make contact. Pitching involves selecting one of seven available pitches and then aiming a cursor while carrying out the throw. Once contact is made, the view switches to an overhead perspective where fielders can dive or jump to make a play. <br><br>Options include four difficulty levels, adjustable innings from one to nine, and individual toggles for errors, injuries, and wind. Would-be managers can change their starting lineups before the first pitch, and whether or not the computer will handle defense or base running. Season statistics are tracked for the league as well as the team, including categories in batting, pitching, and player of the month. Substitutions can also be made to bring in a pinch hitter for a clutch home run or a closer to nail down the game.
