ReviewsBrubkaer has written a nicely organized book about the Apollo 1 Tragedy and the fire in the capsule that killed three astronauts. On January 27, 1967, Virgil I. Grissom, Edward H. White II, and Roger B. Chaffee died when a fire broke out in the spacecraft they were testing in preparation to travel to the moon. Brubaker looks at the events leading up to the tragic accident and documents personal accounts of other astronauts who have felt the effects of this tragedy. The race to the moon that ended so sadly made NASA officials look closely at the accident and space program in order to prevent further accidents. Other spaceflight disasters are mentioned. There is a glossary and internet addresses at the end of the book. There are many color illustrations throughout., Children's Literature
