The front and back covers are also black, which I thought fit the atmosphere nicely. The one thing that was unexpected was that the rest of the notebook was made of slightly thinner black paper. I bought it with the intention of making it into a paper cutting collection, so that wasn't what I expected. I don't think it will have much of an impact on people who want to write with a pen or something.
