About this product
Product Information
You can add a piece of history to your coin collection with the 1928-D BN wheat Lincoln cent. This series of Lincoln copper wheat pennies was made between 1909 and 1958. The 1928-D Lincoln penny is 95 percent copper, 5 percent tin, and zinc weighs 3.11 grams and has a 19 millimeter diameter. Victor David Brenner was the designer of the now famous penny. It features the right side bust of President Abraham Lincoln on the wheat pennies obverse side with the word "Liberty" engraved on the backside of his neck and the year and mintage just below his chin and above his chest. "In God, We Trust" is inscribed across the top of the Lincoln wheat coin. On the reverse side are two stocks of wheat encircling the words "one cent" and "The United States of America" underneath and the Latin Phrase, "E Pluribus Unum" across the top. These pennies have a plain edge. In 1928, the Denver Mint made 31,170,000 of these one-cent pieces. The U.S. began making coins in 1792 with the first mint in Philadelphia. Currently, the U.S. still actively places pennies, nickels, dimes, quarter, half-dollar, and single-dollar coins into circulation. Any coin, including gold and silver ones, can have a value that varies often by the condition. Once any type of damage occurs to a coin made of any precious metal, such as gold pieces and silver dollars, its worth decreases no matter how old, rare, or its earlier condition. When calculating the worth of a coin, gold and silver can hold more value than rare copper coins no matter the type or condition. Another type of penny is the Indian Head. These came before the Lincoln wheat penny and were in production between 1859 and 1909. The Indian Head style can still be one of the rarest and popular coins for collectors. Indian head pennies came about when the price of copper went up, needing a size reduction in the coin, which during the early 1800s were the size of the half dollar of the 20th century, to save on operating costs. The condition or grades for coin collectors vary on a scale between poor, which is all flat and hard to recognize, fair, where the rim is wearing, about or almost good, very good, fine, very fine, extremely fine and the rarest, about uncirculated. These copper Lincoln wheat pennies have a face value of one penny and a numismatic value between $1 and $35 depending on the condition. A mintmark is a stamp found on pennies, dimes, nickels, silver dollars and gold coins that identify the U.S. Mint that produced the copper wheat penny. Mint marks, such as the "D" on the 1928 Lincoln wheat cent, can increase the value of coins in good condition. From 1828-1861, only gold coins had a "D, " and it stood for the U.S. Mint in Dahlonega, Georgia. During the same period, the Mint in Charlotte, North Carolina only printed gold coins too. The "D" on the 1928 copper Lincoln wheat penny represents the mint in Denver, Colorado that’s been minting currency since 1906 and these presidential wheat pennies since 1909. The 1928-D BN wheat Lincoln cent can be an ideal addition to any coin collection, and can be a good coin for beginning and avid collectors alike.
