Der Weltmeister Isidore Weiss, der "Napoleon des Damespiels", hatte eine Ausnahmestellung unter den Großmeistern des Damespiels. Selbst heute, wo seine Partien veraltet sind und der Spielplan in vielen von ihnen durch neue Theorien völlig widerlegt wurde, ist man beim Nachspielen immer wieder beeindruckt vom Charme eines Naturtalents, dem breiten strategischen Aufbau, dem scharfen Blick für die einzige Schwäche im Gegenspiel und nicht zuletzt wegen des feinen Spielgefühls, das diesem französischen Meister erlaubte, sich in ungewohnten Situationen zu orientieren. Er liebte den überraschenden Zug, auch in seinen Partien, und er machte oft Züge, die viele andere stark missbilligen würden. Diese überraschenden Züge sind in allen seinen Konstruktionen zu finden, besonders in seinen Endspielen. Das riskante Kombinationsspiel gab Weiss die Möglichkeit zu genialen Kunststücken. Wo ist der Spieler, der sich heute noch traut, Weiss-Eröffnungen zu spielen, seit das Monster der Theorie das Spiel in Besitz genommen hat? Vergleicht man Weiss-Partien von vor mehr als 100 Jahren mit dem aktuellen Positionsspiel, sieht man, was gewonnen, aber auch was verloren wurde. Bei ersterem überwiegt die Romantik, letzteres ist ein Produkt des Studiums, oft trocken und nur für den Eingeweihten verständlich. Welch wunderbaren Werbewert haben sich diese alten Partien bewahrt!

Getting it shipped took a little long but the seller was very responsive when I messaged and sent me the tracking as soon as it was available. Plus they did a good job packaging it well enough that despite being banged up on the outside my item was completely undamaged.
