Relive favorite moments, and encounter all the old characters from this iconic gaming series, including the distinctively gothic Dante, all remastered in HD-quality visuals with enhanced textures and widescreen support. In Devil May Cry, players assume the role of Dante, the demon hunter out for revenge, as they progress through a range of leveled combat and puzzle-solving missions. Innovative from the get-go, Devil May Cry introduced some exciting new game play features with its original 2001 PlayStation 2 release, including style-based combat ranked according to the number of successive attacks performed without sustaining damage from the enemy. Dante can also transform into a powerful demon with the Devil Trigger, which gives the character enhanced strength and health regeneration as well as unique abilities based on whichever weapon is used. The player can also discover side missions or challenges to unlock permanent power-ups. Building on the success of Devil May Cry, Devil May Cry 2 introduced Lucia as an optional alternative player character to Dante. The game featured the same fast-paced combat with an emphasis on style and performance, with combos executed with sequential button presses. The Devil Trigger is also included, with both characters transforming into demonic forms at the push of a button, while the new Desperation Devil Trigger is an even more powerful version available only to Dante when low on health. The third installment on the PlayStation 2, Devil May Cry 3: Dante’s Awakening, is the prequel to Devil May Cry and introduces fans to Dante’s background and his brother Vergil. The game is notable for reserving the use of the Devil Trigger until one third of the way through the game. There is also a marked difference to the way combat is handled in the game, with players having to choose between four combat styles at the start of each level and at checkpoints. The Trickster style focuses on agility in combat, placing an emphasis on dodging attacks from the enemy. Swordmaster enhances the players’ use of swords and other melee weapons, while Gunslinger concentrates on firearms. The Royal Guard style enables players to block attacks with the push of a button, storing their energy for a counter-attack. As the game progresses, the Quicksilver and Doppelganger styles become available. Quicksilver is used to dramatically speed up Dante’s movements, giving the impression that enemies are moving in slow motion, while the Doppelganger style summons a double of Dante to fight alongside him in battle. This double is controlled by the computer by default but can be accessed by a second player if desired. The Devil May Cry HD Collection also includes plenty of bonus content along with new in-game achievements and trophies to keep the game fresh for fans of the originals. Comprised of three classic games and plenty of content to keep gamers entertained, this remastered dark fantasy trilogy is a must have for fans of the genre.
