REVIEWS "An interesting aspect of the book is that at the beginning of World War I in 1914, the German Army was essentially the same as it was when organized in 1871. Through the next four years major changes had to be made to handle the changes brought about by the air plane, motorized vehicles, the tremendous growth in artillery and machine guns and of course the impact of the trenches. The book was first published in 1937. It was not translated into English until 2001, and recently (2006) was reprinted in paperback for the first time.
