About this product
Product Information
Released in 1989 for the Nintendo, Willow is based off the movie of the same name, and like the film, the NES game follows Willow, a simple farmer who is given a quest to stop an evil witch from destroying an infant. If the witch kills this baby, darkness will fall across the land. Willow will need to search the kingdom to find this child before it's too late. Unlike the arcade game, which was a part of the action genre, Willow for the NES is a role-playing game developed and published by Capcom.Willow is accompanied by a colorful cast of characters, including Madmartigan, in the movie. However, he travels alone in this NES game. This game is played in a top-down view across an expansive map. You'll journey to an array of dungeons, forests, and castles. When you start your quest, your character will swing his sword extremely slowly. By killing enemies, gaining experience, and increasing your level, your sword-swinging speed will increase. By the end of this video game, your character will be swinging his sword at the speed of light. Each additional level in this NES title will also grant you more health and magic power for casting spells. Your current level and the amount of experience you've earned are always displayed on the screen. In addition to a fast sword swing, you have your choice of multiple attacks to make with a sword. One example is a spinning sword attack that will dispatch all of the foes around you. There are various swords you can wield throughout your quest, each of varying sizes and speeds. Knowing when to use the right weapon at the right time is key to surviving the harsh world Willow must traverse. The Nintendo game loosely follows the plot of the movie. It also contains features not seen in the film such as new quests that expand on Willow's world. In your journey, you'll fight a variety of enemies ranging from skeletons and snake men to notorious villains like Bavmorda. Defeating each enemy requires more than just swinging a sword. You need to study their attack patterns and strike their weak spots when they are exposed. In addition to all of the action, this Willow NES game features some puzzles to solve. These puzzles will test both your wits and your reflexes. You'll have no problem dispatching your foes thanks to the game’s tight controls, and there is no lag between button presses and screen actions. Even when there are multiple foes on the screen, there is no slowdown or screen flicker. Character portraits taken straight from the movie are displayed on the screen during dialogue sequences. These character portraits are accurate representations of the actors and actresses from the film. Throughout this 10-hour long adventure, you'll hear the beautiful soundtrack Capcom produced for Nintendo. Even if you've never seen the film, this role-playing game for the NES is still a lot of fun to play. The fast-paced combat combined with an excellent plot will have players of all ages enjoying this title.
