This edition of "Star Trek Online" from Cryptic Studios is free to play. All you need to play is a Windows computer, a keyboard, a mouse, and an Internet connection. "Star Trek Online" is rated T for Teen.With over 3 million users, this game is set in the years 2409-2410, in a world where the United Federation of Planets and the Klingon Empire are at war again. A variety of free updates called Seasons are available to continue the storylines in the base game. There are also expansion packs available that add new characters, ships, and factions. Players are given command of their own ships and can be a part of the fleet of their choice by joining the Federation, Klingon, or Romulan factions. Ships can be customized, and players are free to create unique vessels. Uniforms also may be tailored to suit different tastes. “Star Trek” allows players to pool resources to complete missions, an important aspect of online role-playing games. Cooperate with other members of the “Star Trek Online” community by participating in Fleet Actions. In “Star Trek Online,” you choose your allegiance to a faction and create your own captain. There are over 20 species available, including Vulcans, Humans, the Gorn, Andorians, Romulans, the Orion, Remans, Benzites, and Klingons. You can even create your own alien race to play. From there, choose your career path. “Star Trek Online” puts you in the captain’s seat. You can command everything from the Enterprise to a Daedalus Science Vessel to a Romulan Warbird and more. As you lead your crew, you can assign NPC characters to tasks with the Duty Officer System. The customization options are varied and ensure that you'll have hours of gameplay immersed within the “Star Trek" universe.Lastly, true to the mission of the Starship Enterprise, the game allows players to embark on explorations of new star systems and uncharted galaxies. Explore worlds and space stations with detailed digital locations. Meet characters from “The Original Series,” “The Next Generation,” “Deep Space Nine,” “Voyager,” and more. Visit the C-Store to claim exclusive unlocked or purchased in-game content. Purchase ZEN currency in the Z-Store to use within the game. You can also exchange dilithium for ZEN in the exchange store.
