Reviews
Art Book Review - Jan 2024 The concept behind this somewhat portmanteau title is intriguing. On the face of it, it could indicate a desire to produce another book with Adebanji, who is deservedly popular, but it goes further than that and addresses the matter of capturing character in both people and their surroundings. Dubbed "the addictive sketcher", Adebanji has previously been known for quick drawings and an incredibly busy sketchbook. This is his chance to show you what you can do when you work these up in the studio. There's still evidence of the quick impression, but there's also time to consider composition, colour and balance. It's also worth pointing out the subtitle - Capturing everyday life in oils . As this is not primarily a book about techniques of application, I don't think that need worry you if you want to work in other media - structuring an image applies universally. There are all kinds of subject here from portraits and townscapes to more relaxed figures and even landscapes. It's impossible not to fall in love with Adebanji and his work, and this will do much to enhance his known repertoire as well as his reputation.
