I usually wear an 8; sometimes a 7.5 & needed a 9 in this boot just to accommodate a slightly wider foot. The 8.5 was tight & too narrow to wear comfortably. With this size 9 i now have ample footbed width to fit comfortably & some wiggle room lengthwise. I will have room for thicker socks so it all worked out
