About this product
Product Information
Sega's jungle adventure arcade hit monkeys its way to your home or office via Congo Bongo for the TI-99/4A home computer. You are a hunter on a dangerous jungle safari. As ominous jungle drums beat and wild animals converge, you must reach Congo Bongo, a mischievous ape who is king of the jungle.

To reach the crazy ape's hideaway, you must climb a steep mountain and then cross a river. As you hike up the mountain, you will encounter steep cliffs, swift streams, poisonous snakes, wild monkeys and skull-crushing coconuts, which are thrown by Congo Bongo. If a monkey grabs you, you can shake it off by jumping.

You cross the river by hopping on lily pads, hippos, islands or fish. Obstacles to avoid during this level include fast-moving waters, dangerous heights, and charging rhinos. After you reach Congo's hideaway in the high cliffs on the far side of the river, you return to the foot of the jungle mountain to begin another climb. At this point, the game will get harder as the action increases in speed and the screen gets more crowded with wild beasts.

A game of Congo Bongo ends only when all five of your hunters perish. You lose a life when you fall off a cliff, fall into the water or are struck by a coconut, rhino or snake. Also, if you are not careful, a monkey can throw you off a cliff.

Unlike the original coin-op version of Congo Bongo, which has four screens, and the Atari 2600 and ColecoVision versions of the game, which have three screens apiece, this rendition of Congo Bongo has just two screens of jungle terrain.
