Reviews
"If you plan to master colloquial Arabic or really understand slang in the Middle East, you should get this series."-- Donovan Nagel, The Mezzofanti Guild
Synopsis
While most courses in Egyptian Arabic teach the essentials of syntax, morphology, and vocabulary, this resource book takes the student a step beyond. Intended for the advanced learner of Egyptian Colloquial Arabic who has mastered the basics, this third in a series of three books (following Volume 1, Adjectives and Descriptions, and Volume 2, Proverbs) focuses on colorful expressions used by native speakers. The learner will advance from knowing how to form a good sentence to being able to express his or her thoughts about the ups and downs of daily life using culturally appropriate expressions. This third volume, Idiomatic Expressions, focuses on the many figures of speech and traditional sayings that native speakers use constantly in social situations. Each entry is given fully voweled followed by its feminine form and plural. Definitions (including connotation) and explanations are given in Egyptian Colloquial Arabic, and words taught in the book are used in many of the definitions, thus providing further reinforcement. Organized as a reference work, the book can also be used as a textbook, as it contains exercises., While most courses in Egyptian Arabic teach the essentials of syntax, morphology, and vocabulary, this resource book takes the student a step beyond. - 5***w (1176)- Feedback left by buyer.Past 6 monthsVerified purchaseThe book that was shown was not the book that I received. Nonetheless, when I informed the seller that it wasn't the item they advertised-/they were more than willing to make it right. Since they didn't have another copy of the title I was expecting, they promptly issued an apology; and refund full refund. I really appreciated the speed at which they were willing to make things right with this transaction. I will definitely not hesitate to do business with them again. Thank You!
