Roger Zelazny is one of the most important writers the science fiction and fantasy field has ever had. He burst onto the scene like a supernova wowing fans and established writers alike. He quickly racked up an impressive number of Hugo and Nebula awards. His best known books Lord of Light, Nine Princes in Amber, Eye of Cat, and A Night in the Lonesome October have few equals. Zelazny was a writer's writer. His language was poetic, his books thoughtful and compelling. Zelazny and Carl Yoke were lifelong friends. They began writing letters to one another in 1957, when they went off to two different colleges. The letters continued for at least thirty eight years. Most are chatty letters meant to keep each other apprised of their lives as they unfolded more than a thousand miles apart. But as both were writers, there is a fair amount of shop talk that will interest writers and Zelazny's fans alike. as a bonus 15 letters to Philip K. Dick are also included.. These letters open a window into Zelazny's life and work. After reading them you will have a much more complete vision of the man who wrote Lord of Light and the Chronicles of Amber. Zelazny's impact on Science fiction and fantasy during his lifetime cannot be over stated. Here is a portrait of an artist as a friend.
