Hero X, released in a turn-of-the-century renaissance of comic book and movie superheroes, puts you in the role of a hero assigned by the American Super Heroes Association (AHSA) to serve and protect the city of Smalltown. The gender, costume style, superpowers, and color of your avatar are customizable. The game contains more than 50 superpowers, including perennial favorites such as super speed, super strength, x-ray vision, and invisibility, though only three can be selected initially. A hybrid of action, strategy, and role-playing, Hero X is mission based and spans multiple chapters.<br><br>Powers are categorized into classes (mental, shields, strength, and so forth) and drain your energy reserves when used. Real-time combat is viewed from an angled top-down perspective (Diablo-style) using a simple point-and-click interface. Melee and projectile attacks are available and various objects littered about the environment become weapons for fending off the hordes of henchmen and super villains that plague the town. Character level increases lead to additional powers. Comic book-style cut-scenes punctuate the action while advancing the plot.
