These are known common failures with small block and big block chevy engines as over the years the thermal compound at the bottom that transfers heat from the module tends to erode away, allowing heat to build up and severely shorten its lifespan. definitely worth keeping an extra on hand in your glove compartment for a "just-in-case" moment
