Synopsis
Discovered by Columbus in 1493, ruled by the Spanish for 400 years, and now a commonwealth of the United States, Puerto Rico has a long and diverse history that is reflected in its architecture and landmarks. For more than 250 years, Casa Blanca housed the family of Spanish conqueror Ponce de Leon; it is now a museum and the oldest house still standing in Old San Juan. The Luis Ramos Gonzalez Elementary School in Caguas, built in the Art Deco style during the New Deal hasn't changed as much--it is now serving as a junior high school. In Puerto Rico Then and Now , vintage black-and-white photographs from the earlier days of the commonwealth are juxtaposed with beautiful color photos taken from the same vantage points today. Each photo is accompanied by illuminating text that appears in both English and Spanish, making the book accessible for speakers of both languages. It's a trip around the island sure to fascinate anyone interested in Puerto Rico's unique culture and heritage!, Discovered by Columbus in 1493, ruled by the Spanish for 400 years, and now a commonwealth of the United States, Puerto Rico has a long and diverse history that is reflected in its architecture and landmarks. Ordered from USA and arrived to me in UK about 10 days later. Book appropriately packaged and mostly as described. Was missing the cd as listed but communication with the seller was friendly and polite if not a little confusing - partial refunds are only offered after you start the formal eBay return request process, they aren't capable of giving refunds after simple messaging to customer service. All in all though, great value and a positive transaction. Would interact again 👍

Unfortunately I received a damaged book, the item and the package both were damaged and it was clearly evident its appearance that it happened during transit. The seller was very understanding and gave me a full refund for the damaged book, though it was no fault of their own. Other than the damage, the book was as described, the quality and condition aside from the damaged spot was like new. The cost of the book was reasonable. I would definitely purchase from the seller again.

Have ordered books a number of times from ThriftBooks, via eBay, over the years, and the transactions have always been super-smooth. It was the same way this time. Sturdy packaging for the shipments. Condition / appearance of books was even better than described. As always, an excellent value, particularly with the free shipping as well as the promotional discount for ordering three or more books at a time. Love it!
