By using this, this Intel CPU can give its cores a turbo boost under heavy use. While this increases the GHz frequency of the cores, it still keeps the overall unit energy efficient. The Intel Xeon E5-2687W CPU has a clock speed of 3.1 GHz. When each core is overclocked, the Xeon unit gets a boost to 3.8 GHz. This Intel core unit also features 20MB of Smart Cache, which can give the Xeon unit better cache memory management.This Xeon eight core processor also features Intel QuickPath Interconnect, also called QPI. The QPI is a point to point interconnection developed by Intel. The goal of the QPI is to replace the front side bus or FSB. The QPI took over for the FSB, though the older term “bus speed” can still used. This Xeon unit has a core bus speed of 8 GT/s—otherwise known as gigatransfers per second. With help from the QPI, this means that the Xeon unit can transfer eight GT/s when running at full power.This Xeon 3.1 GHz eight core unit also features Intel Demand Based Switching software.
